ILPS-Asia Pacific calls for the immediate cessation of the India-Pakistan conflict

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle-Asia and Pacific (ILPS-AP) called for the immediate cessation of the conflict between India and Pakistan.

On May 7, the Indian government’s “surgical strike” under its Operation Sindoor on the densely populated area of Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir killed up to 31 people and wounded 57. According to the Indian government, Pakistan’s retaliatory attack killed at least 15 civilians and wounded 43.

The ILPS urged “both sides to immediately de-escalate their attacks.”

It said, “The war hawks from both sides are dominating the discourse, hyping sectarian interests, including the religious angle, to the detriment of the working people.”

In addition, as a supplier of arms to India, the US is influencing the conflict for its own strategic gain such as the Quad Military alliance. The US is also advising India regarding the tariffs it imposes on China.

“The eye for an eye doctrine, will make all blind. Not everybody but mostly civilians have been killed and injured from the military actions. The voice for peace of the working people must be heard and heeded,” the ILPS added.

The group also condemns attacks on civilians, including the attack that killed 26 on April 22 in Pahalgam, in Jammu and Kashmir. It also calls for genuine freedom and the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir. It said that occupation and plunder are the roots of the conflict and violence within the region.

ILPS-AP expect the parties involved in the current military actions to cease hostilities, de-escalate the situation, and come to an agreement to form a political solution to the ongoing crisis in the South Asia subregion.

The group also supports the actions of workers and peasants in India, Jammu and Kashmir, and Pakistan to demand an end to the conflict and for a genuine political solution.
