Kabataang Makabayan celebrates 60th anniversary
Various Kabataang Makabayan (KM) chapters launched a series of activities to celebrate the revolutionary organization’s 60th anniversary on November 30. For over six decades, KM has championed the flag of national democracy and promoted calls for genuine land reform, national industrialization, scientific and mass-oriented culture, people’s democracy, and other pressing demands of the Filipino people.
KM-Lucille Gypsy Zabala (KM-LGZ) led graffiti and postering campaign operations (OP-OD) on the streets of the nation’s capital. The group called for sustained and widespread mass movements, support for the New People’s Army (NPA), and the struggle for agrarian revolution.
KM-LGZ urged young people, particularly workers and intellectuals, to contribute to the advancement of the people’s war in response to the worsening crisis brought about by imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism. “Young people in the regions continue to lead the struggle to assert the people’s rights despite the intensified militarization of schools and communities as part of the counter-insurgency programs of the AFP-PNP and the Marcos Jr. regime,” the chapter stated.
At the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP)-Sta Mesa, KM-Balangay Kira Mindoro members conducted an OP-OD within the campus. The chapter encouraged their fellow students to join KM and the New People’s Army (NPA).
The chapter also released a pamphlet containing information about KM and their anniversary statement. The chapter honored the martyred youth from PUP who sacrificed their lives for the people as Red fighters in various parts of the Philippines.
In Quezon, KM-Balangay Dani Lagrima conducted an OP-OD during Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s visit to the province on November 30. “It is fitting to remind Marcos Jr that the youth remains strong in its resolve to crush the state that perpetuates a corrupt system,” the chapter stated.
The chapter’s activity also aimed to challenge the false “peace” declaration by the 2nd ID and the local government in Quezon. The province was declared “insurgency-free” in June 2023. Despite this, the NPA and other revolutionary organizations, led by the Communist Party of the Philippines, continue to operate throughout Quezon.
The chapter vowed to respond to the call for widespread reinvigoration of the NPA by recruiting thousands of youth to advance the people’s war to a higher level. “Only armed struggle can address the severe crisis faced by the youth in education and livelihood,” they stated.
In Cebu City, KM-Cheene Dacalos members also conducted an OP-OD within the University of the Philippines-Cebu. The chapter printed and distributed pamphlets throughout the campus for students to read.
Greetings from the CPP and NDFP allies
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and Artists and Writers for the People (Armas) chapters extended their greetings to KM on its 60th anniversary. The Central Committee of the Party called on patriotic and revolutionary youth troop to the countryside, join the NPA, and participate in the people’s war.
“The youth, especially young workers and young intellectuals, are now more than ever crucial to contribute their skills to strengthening the people’s army, making it an even more effective weapon in the struggle and defense of the people against the unparalleled terrorism of the reactionary state,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Armas-Balangay Marlon Caacbay in Metro Manila and the Armas chapter in Cebu also conducted OP-OD campaigns to celebrate their allied organization under the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. NPA units and commands and chapters of the National Federation of Peasant Organizations supported them.
