Mexico holds gathering in solidarity for Philippine revolution

,

In response to the call of the Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle for a day of solidarity with the Filipino revolution, a group of activists from various democratic organizations gathered in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico on August 26. They read the FFPS statement, as well as the Corriente del Pueblo-Sol Rojo (People’s Current-Red Sun) statement.

Participating in the activity was the Movimiento Femenino Popular, which expressed solidarity with Filipino women participating in the armed struggle as fighters and commanders of the New People’s Army. “There is no revolution without women!” the women’s group stated.

“The poor in the Philippines have just cause to take up arms against the tyrannical government,” the Movimiento de Artesanos Independientes said. “They are just like us who are hunted down and criminalized for being poor or indigenous.” The group is an organization of artisans, most of whom are indigenous.

The groups distributed a special issue of the Mural publication that contained basic information related to the Philippine revolution. The report said many Mexicans became interested in the program and the Mural because of the common history of the Philippines and Mexico as colonies of Spain, including many similarities in the culture and history of resistance.

“We, the Mexican people, are completely optimistic about the success of the movement for the national independence of our Filipino siblings,” the groups said.

Along with their solidarity with the Philippine revolution, they also recognized the great struggle of the Palestinians against Zionist Israel and the revolutionary resistance of the people in India against Operation Kaagar.
