More than 8,000 Filipinos join White Ribbon Movement's march against corruption
More than 8,000 Filipinos from various faiths and democratic organizations gathered on June 28 in a march for truth, accountability, and justice at the EDSA People Power Monument. Led by the White Ribbon Movement (WRM), the march raised the call “Hold all those involved accountable! People take action against poverty, corruption, and lack of accountability.”
WRM opened the day of action with a mass at the EDSA Shrine led by Bishop Colin Bagaforo, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kidapawan and chairperson of the Inter-Religious Leaders Council for National Transformation (ILCNT). This was followed by a march to the People Power Monument where the program was held. Prayers, speeches, songs, and cultural performances filled the program.
Bishop Bagaforo’s statement said the action serves to remind Filipinos that the people have the right to a decent future. “And we believe that a better future can be achieved through better politics—politics that serves the interests of the people, protects dignity, and is guided by justice instead of greed,” the bishop added.
WRM is a newly formed broad anti-corruption movement primarily built by the ILCNT, a coalition of religious leaders from various faiths. The movement includes Catholic, Christian, Protestant, Evangelical, and Muslim groups. Some of them were part of the former Trillion Peso March Movement that mobilized in 2025.
The day of action was joined by religious leaders including Archbishop Emerson Beriones of the Holy Orthodox Catholic Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Bishop Efraim Tendero of the World Evangelical Alliance, Bishop Joseph Agpaoa of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines, Minnie Anne Mata-Calub of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines, Fr. Wilmer Tria of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines, Fr. Tony Labiao of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Novaliches, and Sr. Marie Paule, AMP of the Conference of Major Superiors in the Philippines. Lipa Archbishop Gilbert A. Garcera, D.D., president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines of the Catholic Church, expressed support for the action.
Alliances and mass organizations are also part of WRM. These include Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot (KBKK), which led the 100,000-strong Baha sa Luneta protest against corruption on September 21, 2025 and over 20,000 people on November 30, 2025 at Luneta Park, Manila. The Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance (TAMA NA, or People Against Thieves and Abusers) also joined, along with youth who participated in the walkout movement in the last quarter of 2025 under Youth Rage Against Corruption (YRAC).
The national-democratic group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) and all its member organizations also joined. “The fight continues to hold all those involved in widespread and systematic corruption accountable. Jail all the corrupt in Congress, in the Cabinet, and in Malacañang. Immediately try and hold Sara Duterte accountable! Make Marcos Jr answer for the continuing massive corruption in the country!” Bayan stated.
Other participants of WRM include Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Mamamayan (ANIM), Advocates for National Interest (ANI), Military and Uniformed Personnel (MUP) 4 United PH, Federation of Free Workers (FFW), Concerned University of the Philippines Vanguard, Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP), Sanlakas, Bunyog, Rebolusyonaryong Alyansang Makabansa (RAM), Artikulo Onse, Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP), and August Twenty One Movement (ATOM).
Aside from Metro Manila, a White Ribbon March was also held in Iloilo City. Many dioceses of the Catholic Church tied white ribbons in their churches in solidarity with the day of action.
