Students protest against Marcos senatorial candidates at BulSU
Bulacan State University (BulSU) students clashed with the police while protesting against the presence of the Marcos regime’s senatorial candidates under the Alliance for a New Philippines last May 7. They said allowing these candidates on campus is unacceptable.
The Alliance for a New Philippines, featuring interviews with Tito Sotto, Ping Lacson, Erwin Tulfo, and Abby Binay, held a press conference at the E-Library of BulSU.
According to the BulSU Student Government (SG), Marcos’ alliance is “not welcome” on campus. A group that does not value the welfare of the Scholars of the Nation will never gain the youth’s votes. It said the newly dressed-up campaigns cannot cover up the absurdity of their past betrayals of the people.
In addition, the students called on the regime to lower the prices of goods and raise wages, to provide proper campus facilities amid extreme heat, to hold Marcos accountable, and to make Duterte and others answer for their actions.
The council added that past election surveys by the Student Council and Pacesetter, which resulted in zero support for a single Marcos candidate, are a slap in the face to the Alliance candidates. “This strongly proves that they are never welcome at the university. Expel those who exploit the people, the landlords, the ruling class, and those who run only to protect their family name,” the council added.
The council and the students also condemned the armed police for their sudden arrival and harassment inside the university itself.
