Led by the Labor Force of Fuji Electrics Philippines (LNMFEP-OLALIA-KMU), workers from various factories gathered in Calamba, Laguna today, March 28, to commemorate the third anniversary of the assassination of President Dandy Miguel. Miguel is a well-known unionist leader, not only in Laguna but throughout Southern Tagalog.

He was shot and killed on March 28, 2021 in Barangay Canlubang, Cabuyao, Laguna while returning home from work. Eight bullets took his life. At that time, he was the chairman of LNMFEP-OLALIA-KMU and Vice-chairperson of the Workers’ Union in South Tagalog (PAMANTIK-KMU).

As president of the LMNFEP union, he successfully led and spearheaded the negotiations for the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the union and management during the height of the pandemic.

He also led the promotion of the workers’ campaign for significant wage increases, regularization and against contractualization, and against the prevailing neoliberal policies that are detrimental to the livelihood of the working masses and the people. He supported the workers of Tanduay, Nexperia, Nestle, and NutriAsia in their struggles.

“Three years have passed but Duterte and the killers of Pres Dandy have yet to be held accountable,” Defend Southern Tagalog said. His fighting spirit and his courage continue to inspire Southern Tagalog workers and human rights defenders in the region, the group says.

“We will continue the fight he started. We will also persist in our call for justice,” the group concluded.
