Youth groups protest against corruption in Baguio City

,

Youth groups led a protest in Baguio City against corruption on September 7. Hundreds joined the protest and condemned the exposed anomalies and embezzlement in flood control projects and other infrastructure in the country.

According to Kabataan Party-list (KPL) Cordillera, a group that led the action, the youth are outraged because funds only go to corrupt politicians and their contractor accomplices instead of being allocated for education and public services. They call to “hold the corrupt accountable!”

In Cordillera, the anomalies of the company MG Samidan Construction were exposed, along with other corruption in infrastructure projects such as rock netting, rock sheds, and roads. KPL Cordillera added that high officials are not exempt from the accountability demanded by the youth, such as Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Sara Duterte who benefit from the said projects.

“Let the corrupt tremble in fear. The people united will surely shake the corrupt and oppressors!,” KPL Cordillera spokesperson Gabriel Siscar said.

The strong unity and demand of Baguio residents compelled Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong to join the protest. He delivered a speech at the program.

KPL Cordillera declared that the protest signals the continued actions and activities against corruption and the demand to hold all involved accountable.
