The New People’s Army-Surigao del Sur ambushed operating troops of the Charlie Company of the 75th IB led by Lt. Daniel Buñol. The ambush was carried out at 7:35 a.m. on October 6, 2022 in the mountainous area of Barangay Mahaba, Marihagat, Surigao del Sur, part of the Andap Valley Complex.

The soldiers were aboard three motorcycles when members of the NPA operating team fired on them, when they were seven meters away from their position. The exchange of gunfire lasted seven minutes during which three soldiers were killed and one wounded.

This ambush is part of the continuing counter-offensive against military attacks against the revolutionary movement in the province. It is also a response to the intensified and widespread military operations and human rights violations of the extremely brutal 75th Infantry “Marauder” Battalion of the Philippine Army under its commanding officer Lt. Col. Nelson D. Buyuccan.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) boasts of having defeated the revolutionary movement and armed struggle in Surigao del Sur. But the truth is, even as the fascist military continues with its brutal and fascist activities, its victims and the oppressed people are slowly being pushed to fight back and arm themselves against the ruling state.

The wasteful and inutile NTF-Elcac’s is under the illusion that it can defeat and dismantle the revolutionary movement in the province and in the entire country.

The people face the challenge of firmly resisting state fascism and strengthening the ties between the masses and the people’s army in order to defeat the massive operations of the berserk enemy and advance the people’s war to victory.
