In solidarity with the Filipino people, the Communist Party of the Philippines strongly denounces the killing of Perceival Mabasa (Percy Lapid), a radio commentator known for his tirades against the Duterte and Marcos fascist regimes and defense of people’s rights.

We express heartfelt condolences to Lapid’s family and friends and support their demand for justice.

Clearly, the killing last night of Lapid in Las Piñas City, aims to silence the Filipino people and stop them from raising their voices against government corruption and abuse of power and human rights violations by the military, police and other state forces.

The murder fits right into the overall scheme of state terrorism and suppression of the democratic rights of people, in the guise of counterinsurgency and “anti-terrorism.” It is a brazen attack on press freedom and the people’s right to freedom of expression.
