Marcos' senate slate represents the worst aspects of the ruling system
The senate slate endorsed by Marcos—the so-called Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas—is an alliance of big bureaucrat capitalists and political opportunists, representing the old and decrepit ruling system. Marcos’s chosen candidates personify the political dynasties and the worst aspects of the reactionary state.
Marcos’s “alliance,” like his “uni-team,” is united only by their shared self-interest to partake in the spoils of corruption and privilege. These politicians represent the narrow interests of their families and big business patrons. Their alliance is unprincipled and temporary. For now, they bow to Marcos, further strengthening his effort to monopolize political power through control of all branches of government.
Marcos’s “alliance” is alienated from the broad masses of workers, peasants and other oppressed classes and sectors. They are all known purveyors of neoliberal policies that keep wages low, push prices up, and dispossess the people of land and livelihood.
They represent the interests of foreign big capitalists, local big compradors, and big landlords, supporting their drive to accumulate wealth and profit at the expense of the people, economic sovereignty, and the environment.
In aligning themselves with Marcos, they also align themselves with the regime’s policy of subservience to U.S. imperialism and its strategic plan to use the Philippines as a military fortress to expand its hegemony and imperialist presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
