The Imelda-style “feeding” program of Liza Marcos and officials of the oppressive Marcos regime for homeless children and families will not solve the problem of hunger and poverty. The temporary alms or the showy “Walang Gutom Kitchen” of the DSWD will not calm the rumbling stomachs of the urban poor masses and more than 250,000 street-dwelling children. Liza Marcos is utterly despicable for taking advantage of the widespread poverty and hunger to deceive the people and pretend to be compassionate and charitable.

This superficial program only covers up the continuous rise in the prices of rice and food under the Marcos regime, and its policies of freezing workers’ wages, Marcos’ crony projects that grab land and displace the urban poor, and its programs that take away the livelihood of the poor, all of which worsen the suffering and hunger of millions of Filipinos.

In the face of all these oppressive policies and programs, let us tirelessly demand: sahod itaas, presyo ibaba! (raise wages, bring down prices)
