Residents expel encamped soldiers
Residents of Sitio Green Valley, Barangay Nalus, Kiamba, Sarangani successfully drove out on June 2 the 105th IB troops that had been encamped for months and implementing the counterinsurgency Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) in their community. The military’s encampment at the center of the barangay violates international humanitarian law.
United residents took action and steps to drive out the soldiers. Among these was their collective evacuation from the barangay center to live in the lower part of the community. They also defied soldiers’ orders such as buying supplies, fetching water, and others. Sitio leaders and some barangay officials joined these actions.
Appointed only last February, Lt. Col. Erikzen Dacoco serves as 105th IB commander. The battalion was formed just over three years ago by the 6th ID in February 2023.
