People's protests
Opposing the corrupt and fascist 2026 budget. Progressive groups protested in Mendiola on January 5 to denounce the corrupt and fascist 2026 budget signed by Ferdinand Marcos Jr on that day. They also rallied on December 29, 2025 at the House of Representatives in Quezon City when the budget was being railroaded for ratification. The budget is riddled with pork barrel, unprogrammed appropriations, and confidential funds intended for corruption and fascism.
Anti-privatization in Baguio City. After several months of resistance, the people compelled the withdrawal of the plan to privatize and “mallify” the Baguio City public market. On January 3, the local government announced that SM Prime Holding Inc had withdrawn its plan to take over the market. The city council is set to vote on the privatization of the said market on January 9. Groups will hold another demonstration on that day.
Opposition to the closure of Pasay City market. More than 200 vendors and over 500 workers, porters, and tricycle drivers condemned the closure of the Wowee Market in Pasay City on December 19, 2025. The local government closed it for alleged violations and lack of permits. Hundreds will lose their livelihood, and residents who depend on it will be deprived of more affordable goods.
Anti-demolition in a Pasig City community. Residents of Leona Compound in Nagpayong, Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City stood firm on January 5 against the local government’s eviction. Constructing a hospital and a school is planned in the area. The residents oppose the demolition for not having a designated relocation site.
Anti-corruption alliance returns to Luneta. The Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot (KBKK, or People’s Movement Against Corruption) once again went to Luneta Park in Manila to offer flowers and pay tribute to Dr. Jose Rizal’s death anniversary on December 30, 2025.
