Visit to political prisoners in December

,

Progressive groups launched a broad campaign to visit and gather support for the Philippine political prisoners in December 2025. Human rights defenders, relatives of political prisoners, church people, lawyers, youth, women, workers, and international groups took action and joined the campaign.

Visits were reported to prisons in Northern Luzon, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Laguna, Metro Manila, Iloilo, Tacloban City, Butuan City, North Cotabato, and Davao City. The political prisoners received food, hygiene items, medicine, and letters expressing support for their struggle for freedom.

The Philippines has nearly 700 political prisoners, more than 160 of whom were arrested during the Marcos regime. This includes at least 136 women prisoners, 93 elderly, and 89 ailing individuals.
