Another distressing abduction case in Albay

Karapatan expressed concern about a new abduction case reported in Tabaco City, Albay on August 28. In the report received by the group, 66-year-old Felix Salaveria Jr who is an active member of Cycling Advocates (CYCAD) was abducted, a few days after James Jazmines was disappeared on August 23.

Salaveria often bikes with Jazmines. They were together on August 23 when Salaveria celebrated his birthday, which was the last time Jazmines was seen.

Salaveria graduated from San Beda High School and was a sociology student at the University of the East in Manila. He served as a co-founder of the groups Tabak (Tunay na Alyansa ng Bayan Alay sa mga Katutubo) and Katribu (Kabataan para sa Tribung Pilipino) in the 1980s, which both promoting the rights of indigenous people.

When living in Albay, he became an advocate of eco-waste management and worked with groups promoting such ideals. He also maintained a small community garden at his lodging in Barangay Cobo, Tabaco City.

In 2023, Salaveria suffered a stroke paralyzing his left body. He has been receiving treatment at a clinic in Tabaco City since then.

Karapatan calls for reuniting Felix Salaveria Jr and all other victims of enforced disappearance alive and safe with their worried families.
