CA grants amparo and habeas data petition of abducted activist's family in Bicol

,

The Court of Appeals (CA) granted the writ of amparo and habeas data to Cora Jazmines, wife of missing activist James Jazmines, on January 14. According to the CA, her husband was proven a victim of enforced disappearance and suffered grave violations of his right to life, liberty, and security.

The court also found AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr, former PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, and former CIDG Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III accountable and liable for Jazmines’s disappearance for failing to perform their duty to exert extraordinary efforts to prevent, investigate, document, and resolve the case.

The National Union of People’s Lawyers said the latest legal victory is an important decision for truth and justice. However, the group continues to demand the immediate surfacing of Jazmines and fellow activist Felix Salaveria.

Jazmines is an information technology consultant and younger brother of National Democratic Front of the Philippines peace consultant Alan Jazmines. He was last seen on August 23, 2024, in Tabaco City, Albay. His friend Felix Salaveria was also abducted five days later.
