Groups and family launches alliance to demand surfacing of leader in Davao
The Surface William Lariosa Network was formally launched last April 5. Veteran Kilusang Mayo Uno organizer Lariosa was last seen living in a community in Barangay Butong, Quezon, Bukidnon, on April 10, 2024. The 48th IB abducted him from there and until now denies being responsible for Lariosa’s abduction.
Lariosa’s children issued a statement at the gathering of his colleagues at KMU. Prior to this, they had filed a writ of amparo with the Supreme Court and also sought assistance from the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances.
On April 9 at Freedom Park in Davao City, a day before the anniversary of Lariosa’s disappearance, the group participated in a protest organized by democratic organizations. It aims to highlight cases of enforced disappearances under the Marcos regime and push for holding the regime accountable.
The protest, held in marking Araw ng Kagitingan, also called for protecting the right to organize and the right to free association. It demanded an end to Red-tagging and the abolition of NTF-Elcac.
