Technol Eight Philippines union launches weekly protests for CBA
From the last week of September, the Technol Eight Philippines Workers Union (TEPWU)-OLALIA-Kilusang Mayo Uno has held seven weekly protests to push for the continuation of negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The protests continued yesterday, October 16, and today, October 17, in front of the factory in Biñan, Laguna.
Wage increases, regularization of labor agency-hired workers, and other workers’ economic and political rights are being discussed in the negotiations.
In yesterday’s protest, the union expressed its disappointment over the management’s delay in the negotiations. “The capitalist seems to deliberately prolong the negotiations as it sees many points in the CBA proposal disagreeable,” the union said.
The union shared in an interview that the management’s offer for a wage increase is far from their demands. The negotiations also reached a “deadlock” today because the company refuses to regularize 30 contractual workers from Segen Agency.
The union showed greater determination as contractual workers joined the action which they launched during their break time.
