ACT Teachers set to continue advancing the fight of teachers and the people in 2025 election

The ACT Teachers Party-list at its national convention held on September 26 introduced its nominees for the upcoming 2025 election. The party assured to continue highlighting and promoting the right and well-being of teachers for salary increases, unionizing and other sectoral issues in the elections.

ACT Teachers chapters from different regions and provinces attended the gathering. Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT)-Philippines unions and educators and supporters from public and private schools and universities attended the gathering.

Antonio L. Tinio, a veteran advocate for teachers’ rights and three-time ACT Teachers Party-list congressional representative, will serve as the party’s first nominee. “We will continue to promote a national, scientific and social education system that serves the interests of the people,” he said at the gathering.

Retired teacher Helene Dimaukom from Cotabato City is the party’s second nominee. She said she is happy to be appointed as the party’s second nominee and to have the opportunity to represent the experience and interests of teachers from Mindanao and distant schools. Meanwhile, David Michael San Juan from De La Salle University is the party’s third nominee.

Other party nominees include ACT Philippines secretary general Raymond Basilio, Blesilda Mediran, abduction victim and Central Visayas teacher-organizer Dyan Gumanao, Noli Anoos, Garry Devilles from Ateneo de Manila University, Joyce Caubat from University of Sto. Tomas, and ACT Philippines founding member Fabian Hallig.

ACT Teachers also formally declared their support for the 11 senatorial candidates of the Koalisyong Makabayan. Among these candidates is current ACT Teachers Party-list congressional representative Teacher France Castro. Castro has been a critical voice and opposition to Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Sara Duterte in disclosing the spending of confidential and intelligence funds. She also condemned Duterte several times for her anti-teacher policies when she served as Department of Education secretary.
