Fired Nexperia workers set to be reinstated

,

The unwavering resistance and assertion by Nexperia Phils. Inc. Workers Union-National Federation of Labor Unions-Kilusang Mayo Uno (NPIWU-NAFLU-KMU) recently compelled the Nexperia Philippines capitalists to reinstate fired employees and respect their right to job security. The union said it reached an agreement with the management last September 25.

“Those who were laid off will be able to return, and they will be prioritized for hiring when a vacancy occurs or [work] volume increases,” the NPIWU said. They also achieved an expansion of the Voluntary Separation Package and its accompanying eligible benefits before October 7.

The union added that it was able to push the management to stop the firing workers until the end of the year and for negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) will resume. The two sides agreed to take no retaliatory actions against each other.

The union also agreed to withdraw the Notice of Strike (NOS) related to unfair labor practices (ULP) and layoffs. It union filed an NOS on June 26 after it was supported by 1,248 union member workers in the July 29-30 poll in Cabuyao, Laguna.

The decision to strike was due to unjust working conditions such as dismissal of union officials, temporary dismissal of union members and violation of provisions stated and agreed upon in the CBA. Almost 600 workers have been affected by the series of layoffs by the company since 2023.

Amid all this, the union informed the members and all the workers of Nexperia Philippines that continuous vigilance is important to ensure management will respect and implement the agreements.

“The preparations and struggles conducted gave way to the upcoming CBA negotiation, so we must remain determined to achieve complete success,” NPIWU-NAFLU-KMU added. It said that intensified actions for the consolidation of their ranks is important as preparation to defend against any capitalist action.

Nexperia Philippines is a subsidiary of the Nexperia company based in The Netherlands. It manufactures semiconductors at its factories in Europe, Asia and the US.
