CPP declares ceasefire for traditional holidays, anniversary
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) declared a four-day ceasefire in solidarity with the Filipino masses’ traditional celebrations. The Party’s Central Committee directed the New People’s Army (NPA) to implement it from 00:00 a.m. on December 25 until 11:59 p.m. on December 26, and from 00:00 a.m. on December 31 until 11:59 p.m. on January 1, 2026.
The Party leadership said the ceasefire allows Filipinos to hold simple celebrations amid the grave social and economic conditions under the Marcos regime. The revolutionary movement, together with the people, also sees this as an opportunity to celebrate the Party’s 57th anniversary on December 26.
In carrying out the ceasefire, the Central Committee ordered NPA units to maintain active defense, especially amid relentless Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) combat operations. The Central Committee stated that NPA units must work closely with the masses to ensure its implementation. “They must be ever ready to maneuver or counter-attack, when necessitated by the situation,” the Central Committee said.
The AFP and the Department of National Defense immediately opposed the unilateral ceasefire declared by the Party and the people’s army. According to the Party, the Marcos regime’s agents’ statement proves the bloodthirsty character of its armed forces and their intent to disrupt the Filipino masses’ peaceful festivities.
“Marcos wants to give the people nothing but bullets and bombs as gifts for the coming traditional celebrations by ordering the AFP and police to carry out nonstop combat operations in the countryside,” Party information officer Marco Valbuena said.
Meanwhile, the Party condemned the Philippine Army’s claim that the NPA violated the ceasefire in the Northern Samar clash on December 15, when it was not yet covered by the declaration.
