Piston transport strike and protest. Piston (National alliance of drivers and operators associations) mounted another widespread transport strike and people’s protest against war and poverty on April 21. They set up protest centers in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Iloilo, and Cebu.

Vendors resist eviction in Davao City. Vendors at Bankerohan Public Market in Davao City resolutely stood and resisted violent eviction by police and Davao City local government on April 29. Their wares were taken despite their daily rent payments.

Protest against demolition in Cavite. Residents of Barangay Talaba II, Bacoor City, Cavite protested on May 4 to condemn the planned demolition of over 100 homes in the community. Eviction targets a 420-hectare reclamation project of Frabelle Fishing Corp.

Opposition to mining plan in Camarines Norte. Residents of Paracale, Camarines Norte were dismayed at the public consultation on April 23 for a planned open-pit mining on 321.46 hectares of land in the area. Residents faced Golden River Mining Corporation and government representatives who did not properly address their grievances.

Dialogue with CHR-Region 5. Victims of human rights violations in Bicol protested and held dialogue with Commission on Human Rights (CHR)-Region 5 representatives in Legazpi City, Albay on April 28. They urged the agency to take appropriate action against intensifying red-tagging and terror-tagging in Bicol.
