State forces abduct 2 young Isabela organizers

,

Human rights groups in Cagayan Valley condemned state forces for abducting two young organizers in San Pablo, Isabela on September 11. The victims, Vladimir Maro and Andy Magno, have still not been surfaced by Marcos regime officials until now.

Maro is a Migrante Youth organizer and a migrant workers’ rights advocate. Magno, meanwhile, became part of Minggan-University of the Philippines (UP) Manila, an organization that promotes environmental protection. He graduated from UP-Manila with a degree in Development Studies.

“Karapatan Cagayan Valley and its allied organizations strongly condemn the ongoing abduction of activists and organizers nationwide. We call on the authorities to surface [them],” the group said.

The group also encouraged the public to help the campaign to immediately surface Maro and Magno, and all the desparecidos. Karapatan-Cagayan Valley said those involved in the heinous crime of disappearance must be held accountable.

Under the Marcos regime, Ang Bayan recorded 155 abduction victims. This includes at least three individuals who were abducted and disappeared by state forces in the last week of August alone.

Of these, at least 45 remain missing and have not been found. Meanwhile, 32 of the abductees were killed, 29 were imprisoned, 10 were surfaced and presented as “surrenderees,” and 39 were released but continue to face state harassment. Ten of the victims were children held hostage by the military.
