Support the workers’ struggle for just wages
NDF-Bikol strongly supports the mass campaign for the implementation of a national living wage for all workers. This goes with the demand for regularization of all contractual workers, protection of their rights to unionize and assembly. As part of this campaign, Bikolano nurses and health workers recently launched protests to clamor for wage increases.
This workers’ campaign is just and necessary. They are primary producers and the main engine driving the national economy. No progress can be achieved without their labor. But still this current society kills them with poverty. Prices of basic commodities and petroleum products soar while calamity after calamity ravage the country. The people endures an incomparable suffering. The current minimum wages are far from being enough for workers’ daily needs. In Bikol, wages only reach P200-P300 for contractuals and job order workers while regular workers’ daily pay is a measly P375.
Within the very essence of the existing rotten system is the exploitation of workers. The workers can never fully break free from chains of oppression and exploitation until the status quo is changed and replaced by a new one. More than their fight for just wages and humane work policies, workers must join the armed struggle and unite their strength for the advance of the just people’s war. Only after the victory of the people’s democratic revolution led by the proletariat can the workers and the people’s complete liberation be given way.
