, ,

Megaland Prime Estate Corporation personnel violently demolished the Donald Compound or Meralco Town on FB Harrison St in Pasay City on August 1, destroyng 40 houses and affecting 500 individuals. No relocatin plan was offered, forcing the displaced residents to put up temporary shanties along FB Harrison. Reports said the Pasay City Police picked up two residents and injured four others in the demolition.

Residents said the demolition team failed to present a court order. In fact, a hearing was scheduled between the residents and Megaland on August 8. The residents had opposed the imminent eviction and the company’s offer of ₱25,000 to voluntarily demolish their houses. They called on the mayor of Pasay for in-city relocation as their livelihoods and their children’s schooling are in the city. Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano has yet to respond.

The residents have been living in the area for almost 20 years. The land was formerly owned by Donald Dee, president of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines. He sold the property to Megaland for $89 million in 2021, which then started evicting the residents.
