62nd IB misencounters injure 15 soldiers in Negros Oriental

At least 15 of the 62nd IB soldiers were wounded after three misencounters among its troops on May 1 in Barangay Humay-humay, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental. Witnesses reported the retreat of the operating 62nd IB troops.

The misencounter happened while the 62nd IB was pursuing the New People’s Army (NPA)-Central Negros (Leonardo Panaligan Command) unit that it encountered that morning. The 62nd IB attempted to raid the people’s army camp in Sitio Lupo but the NPA unit successfully defended itself.

“The 62nd IB’s claim that there were four encounters that happened that day is a lie,” the NPA unit spokesperson Ka JB Regalado said. He said the truth is that bloodthirsty soldiers just fired indiscriminately and fought their own troops.

Ka JB also refuted the 62nd IB’s fabricated tale that it confiscated high-caliber weapons and war materiel from the Red army. He said only personal belongings were taken from their unit.
