FFPS to launch day of support for Philippine liberation movement

,

The Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) called on all its members and allies to launch a global day of action this coming August 26 to highlight the just liberation movement and people’s war in the Philippines. The proposed day of action is set on the day of commemoration of the Cry of the Pugad Lawin, which signaled the start of the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish occupation of the country in 1896.

In the statement of the Coordinating Committee of the FFPS, they want to celebrate on that day the advance of the urgent and just struggle of the oppressed and exploited people, from the Philippines to India, and to Palestine.

“As the imperialist powers wage war on them, the people have every right to struggle more resolutely for liberation, and to defend their land and livelihoods,” the FFPS committee said.

The group said the Philippine Marcos regime’s servility to the US and its betrayal of the country’s sovereignty is the reason why the Filipino people are now being dragged into the US’ war against its rival China. In exchange for alms of weapons and political favors, the regime blindly follows the wishes and mandate of the US military for more bases and facilities in the Philippines, the committee said.

Amid all this, the FFPS believes that “the revolutionary movement in the Philippines is the main obstacle to all-out imperialist war in the Asia-Pacific region.” Through a committed protracted people’s war of the New People’s Army, under the leadership of the Communist Party of the Philippines, the imposition of hegemony and dominance in the country becomes a serious challenge to the imperialist US, the group said.

It said, “it is only right that we stand with the oppressed and exploited masses, and that we support their just and ongoing struggle for liberation.”

“Without the revolution and the armed struggle it wages, the Filipino people would be left without teeth to defend itself against the onslaught of imperialism,” FFPS added. The group supports the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

The group and its allies will conduct leaflettering, discussions, postering and more in the days and weeks leading up to the actual day of action.

“We must show the world that it is the NDFP and the fighting Filipino masses that are struggling to free the Philippines from the evils of US imperialism, domestic feudalism and bureaucrat capitalism,” FFPS emphasized. The call of FFPS is translated in Spanish, French, Deutsch, and Italian aimed at reaching the highest number of individuals and organizations.

FFPS was established in 2021 in support of the national-democratic movement in the Philippines. It has allies and member organizations in North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. On June 20, it launched the second general assembly in Malaysia.
