Activists launched a protest in the US on August 9 to condemn US Pres. Joseph Biden regime’s intervention and oppression in Venezuela. Carrying placards with the call “Hands off Venezuela! End all Sanctions,” they called on the US to stop inciting a coup against Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro and lift the sanctions on the country’s economy. The action is a response to the call of ALBA Movimientos, Simon Bolivar Institute, Assembly of Caribbean Peoples and International People’s Assembly.

The US escalated its intervention in the recently concluded Venezuelan presidential election in which Maduro won for the third time. The US baselessly declared that the election was “rigged” to declare its backed opposition’s “victory” to stir up trouble in the country. This opposition has openly called for Maduro’s ouster and has sparked protests in what Venezuela now considers a “coup.” The mass media is among those actively used by the US and its minions in Venezuela to spread lies and make the country’s government appear illegitimate. These maneuvers have been met by the Venezuelan people reclaiming the streets to support Maduro’s election victory.

To counter US lies aiming to isolate Venezuela from the rest of the world, ALBA Movimientos calls on all anti-imperialist groups and movements to participate in the international campaign for the democracy and sovereignty of Venezuela.

“(The US) aims to spread the idea through the media that the recent election in Venezuela is illegitimate,” the group said. “This is not surprising, as such tactics are part of the “hybrid war” that the US has developed against Venezuela.”

“We want to refute fake news and the lies being disseminated, and through this, equip revolutionary citizens and organizations in the information and idea wars about Venezuela,” ALBA said.

“It is impossible not to link Venezuelan events to the regional and international geopolitical context, especially its unique place in the world’s oil production, and its service to the people, its place in the multipolar world with emerging nations, and of course, in its leadership in the regional unity and integration of Latin America and the Caribbean which continues to fight free trade agreements and give life to the sovereignty of the region against US schemes,” the group said.

As early as August 2, Maduro has already requested the Supreme Court to audit the election results to dispel any doubts about his victory. Although the country’s election system is fully automated, it can be verified and audited at all levels, both by the parties participating in the election and the voters.
