Bukidnon residents condemn DUMO Mining

Residents of Malitbog, Bukidnon condemned the operation of DUMO Mining whose operations began late February. The company mining operations covered 30-40 hectares in Impahanong and Bayawa, both in Barangay San Luis, and Barangay Hagpa in Malitbog; and its adjacent Barangay Hagpa, Impasug-ong.

Ang Kalihukan, the revolutionary people’s newspaper in North Central Mindanao, said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources national office granted the company its permit, but the local government of Malitbog did not. In March, mining operations for raw gold mining was in full swing. Three backhoes, a dump truck, and other mining equipment are on site. Elements of the 58th IB and some rebels who “surrendered” acted as its guards.

Residents’ denounced the mining operations as this has evicted from their communities and livelihoods. Company workers also complained because of the cheap wages and lack of a proper wage system.
