,

Before the Bantayog ng mga Bayani, Teddy Casiño announced today, August 21, his senate candidacy in the 2025 election. He made the declaration on the anniversary of the assassination of Benigno Aquino Jr, an event he acknowledges as key to his initial awakening.

Casiño is currently Bayan Muna (BM) vice chairperson and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan chairperson. He served as a BM representative in congress for three terms from 2004 to 2013.

“The service of former Rep. Casiño has been tested in the laws he passed and pushed for nine years as a legislator and representative of the people,” BM said. Among the laws proposed and passed by the party during his term are: Public Attorneys Act of 2007 (R.A. 9406); Tax Relief Act of 2009 (R.A. 9504); Rent Control Act of 2009 (R.A. 9653), and the Anti-Torture Act of 2009 (R.A. 9745). He led the filing of 178 laws and co-authored 376 others. He was one of the most diligent congressmen of his time.

“We are proud to have Teddy Casiño as part of the Makabayan slate,” Koalisyong Makabayan stated. “His dedication to the struggle for genuine change and social justice is unwavering.”

Casiño’s candidacy will focus on challenging the continued dominance of corrupt dynasties and pushing for systemic change, the coalition said. “He aims to present a progressive agenda that prioritizes the needs of the marginalized and oppressed sectors of society.”

Casiño joined Rep. France Castro of the ACT Teachers Party, Rep. Arlene Brosas of Gabriela Women’s Party, Jerome Adonis of Kilusang Mayo Uno, Rep. Liza Maza who was a former representative of GWP and Ronnel Arambulo of Pamalakaya as candidates in the Makabayan senatorial slate.
